Summer “Camp” Experiences Positive for Trask Cadets

Thirty-three Heide Trask High School Army Junior ROTC cadets underwent summer training at Camp Lee Ford, Southside Virginia, and/or Oak Ridge Military Academy outside of Greensboro, NC.

At Lee Ford, June 12-19, twenty-three Trask cadets saw wholesale adjustments to their training schedule as persistent rain storms cancelled day trips to hike at Hanging Rock State Park near Danbury, NC, and to tour the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, VA.  When the weather finally broke on June 18, cadets were more than ready to tackle the camp’s 40-foot rappel tower and zip-line and to follow-up with swimming, fishing and canoeing in the camp’s lake.

Ten Trask Cadets attended Oak Ridge JCLC, June 23-27.   Participants were divided among three training “companies” and given the opportunity to perform various “troop leading” tasks throughout the week.  They also received drown-proofing, land-navigation and marksmanship training and were challenged with daily physical training, a significant obstacle course and North Carolina’s tallest (70 foot) rappel tower.
