Pender County Employee Benefits  

Available to all permanent, full-time employees 30 hours or more per week

FLEXIBLE BENEFITS PLAN:  Offered yearly during a specified open enrollment period.  Provides opportunity to select pre-tax benefit plans including:  Cancer, Intensive Care Protection, Medical Bridge-Hospital Confinement, Dental, Vision, Accident Plan, as well as Un-reimbursed Medical and Dependent Care Expenses. NC SMART CHOICE PPO:  The State Health Plan will allow employees to choose among two PPO options.  The PPO options are Smart Choice Basic, Smart Choice.  Smart Choice offers an employee/spouse option; lower out of pocket costs (office visit co-pay instead of deductible and coinsurance), reduced premium options for dependent coverage and extensive network providers.  For additional information contact the State health plan at 1-800-422-4658 or visit the website at http://www.shpnc.org/

 

PRESCRIPTION DRUG PLAN:  Prescription drugs are not subject to deductible and coinsurance.  Co-payment for each 34 day supply is currently: $10 Generic, $25 Preferred Brand without Generic, $40 Preferred Brand with Generic, and $50 Non-Preferred Brand.  There is a co-payment limit of $2,500 per person per plan year.  For additional information or questions call Pharmacy Benefit Manager at 1-888-693-7750 or visit the website at http://www.shpnc.org/pharmacy.html

DISABILITY INCOME PLAN:  A comprehensive short-term and long-term plan is provided at the employer's expense for employees who meet appropriate state service requirements. 


UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE:  Public school employees are entitled to unemployment insurance.  Benefit amounts are based on a percentage of a person's earnings, up to the allowable maximum.


WORKERS' COMPENSATION:  All public school employees are entitled to receive Workers Compensation under the North Carolina Workers Compensation Act.  Employees must have suffered an accidental injury or contracted an occupation disease in the course of employment to be eligible for medical payments, compensation for lost salary, or death benefits under this program.


DEATH BENEFIT:  After one year of service under the North Carolina State Retirement System, death benefit is paid to beneficiary equaling employee's annual salary (minimum of $25,000 and maximum of $50,000).  Employee must have been paid salary within the last 180 days.


ANNUAL LEAVE:  Employees earn annual leave/vacation leave on a scale based on total years of state service.  Annual leave includes both scheduled and unscheduled leave days.  All unscheduled annual leave must be approved by the immediate supervisor.  Employees can accumulate up to thirty (30) days with excess converting to sick leave on June 30.  Note:  Prior approval is required.


VOLUNTARY SHARED LEAVE: Voluntary shared leave is intended to provide economic relief for employees who face financial hardship due to a prolonged absence or frequent short-term absences caused by a serious medical condition.  Voluntary shared leave may also be used during the required waiting period for short-term disability.  An employee who is receiving benefits or is eligible to receive benefits from the Disability Income Plan is not eligible to receive donated leave.


Eligible medically approved permanent full-time and part-time employees are eligible to receive donated leave.  The employee must exhaust available sick leave and vacation leave before using donated leave.  For more information, please contact the Benefits Services.


SICK LEAVE:  Employees earn one day per month.  Sick leave accumulates indefinitely.


LEAVE OF ABSENCE WITH PAY:  Jury duty, certain court attendance, and up to fifteen (15) days of military leave per year.


LEAVE OF ABSENCE WITHOUT PAY:  Parental leave (for birth or adoption of child), educational leave, or any other reasons approved the Board of Education.


LONGEVITY PAY:  Available to teachers and classified employees with at least ten (10) years of state service, paid annually the month following "anniversary" month.


HOLIDAYS: 10 or 11 scheduled each year for full-time and part-time employees.


DIRECT DEPOSIT:  All employees are eligible for direct deposit. 


TERM LIFE INSURANCE:  A $5000.00 term life insurance policy is provided at no cost to the employee. 


SCHOOL BADGE:  Allows free admission to Pender County Schools' athletic events.


Available to teachers only (Partial Pay Benefits)

EXTENDED SICK LEAVE:  Up to twenty days per year for personal illness after accumulated sick leave is exhausted with appropriate medical documentation.  A $50.00 per day deduction applies.


PERSONAL LEAVE:  Teachers earn .2 days per month.  Personal leave accumulates indefinitely.  A $50.00 per day deduction applies.
