The Battle of the Books is a fun, literary competition offered at both the elementary and middle schools. Middle school students read a total of 26 books, and compete in a district-wide competition. The winning team is eligible to attend a regional competition. Elementary students read 12 books and participate in a district-wide competition.

The NCSLMA (NC School Library Media Association) maintains a web site for Book Competitions, that includes the "Battle of the Books" book list for the North Carolina middle school and elementary school competitions.

All Media Coordinators are members of the NCSLMA (NC School Library Media Association) in Region 2.
