End of Course Tests (EOCs)

Given to all students enrolled (for credit) in the following courses: English I and OCS English I, Algebra I and OCS Math I, Algebra II, Biology and OCS Life Science, Physical Science, US History, Civics & Economics. Test measures student performance on the goals, objectives, and grade-level competencies specified in the standard course of study.  In Pender County U.S. History, Civics, and Biology tests are given in an online format.

End of Grade Tests (EOGs)

Given to all* students grades 3-8 to measure student performance on the goals, objectives, and grade-level competencies specified in the standard course of study in reading and math (*excludes students who take alternative assessments). Students in grades 5 & 8 are also given a science EOG test.

K-8 Writing Assessment

Writing assessment that includes authentic and on-demand writing assignments, appropriate to each grade level and backmapped from the graduation project. This is a new approach to writing that replaces the grades 4 & 7 writing test.

Limited English Proficient (LEP) Language Assessment

Used to determine if a student is identified as Limited English Proficient (LEP). Initial assessment is required within 30 days of enrollment. Every identified student will also take an annual assessment. The current assessment is the WIDA W-APT (initial) and the WIDA ACCESS (annual). NC EXTEND 1

NC EXTEND 1 is an alternate assessment to the NC EOG/ EOC test. It is given to students who have a significant cognitive disability. A student must also have a current IEP to take this modified version of the EOG/ EOC.

NC EXTEND 2 (EOG)

NC EXTEND 2 is an alternate assessment to the NC EOG test. It is given to students whose disability has precluded the student from achieving grade level proficiency, as demonstrated by objective evidence.
