David W. Pearsall was a native of Rocky Point in Pender County and a graduate of North Carolina State University College of Engineering. The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize academic excellence and to open opportunities to Pender County young people who aspire to a college degree. The award is made possible through an endowment established by the late Mr. Pearsall. It is presented to outstanding students in Pender County Schools who pursue higher education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

The amount of the award varies each year but is renewable contingent upon the student remaining in good standing with the university.

The application is available in school guidance offices and on line by January 15 each year.

Deadline for applications is April 15.
